How to go to Heaven

The most important question a person could ask in their lifetime is “how can I go to heaven when I die?”

There are many different ideas out there, but the Bible is crystal clear about this topic. God isn’t trying to hide it from us, he wants us to be saved. Now, in order to be saved.. we have to understand what we are being saved from.

Romans 3:23

 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Nobody’s perfect. We have all sinned against a perfect and Holy God. From the sweet old lady who spends her free time serving in a soup kitchen, to the mean rugged bank robber who makes a living stealing money… We all have sinned. Why does this matter ?

Romans 6:23A

For the wages of sin is death

Unfortunately, because we have all sinned, we all have a punishment we deserve for our sins. That punishment is death, which also includes hell. None of us deserve to go to Heaven.

Revelation 20:14

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

A lot of people will say, “ok yes I understand I am a sinner.. but do I really deserve to go to hell after I die ?” The Bible gives us a clear answer. It gives us a list of people who go to hell, and every single person is included in this list.

Revelation 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Have you told a lie before ? Of course. So according to the Bible, even one lie is enough for us to earn a place in hell. Now, do you think God wants you to go to hell? Absolutely not! He provided a way for you to escape hell!

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us

Although you and I deserve hell for our sins, Jesus died for us! He took our place. He was perfect, he never sinned one time, and because of this fact he is able to pay for our punishment as a perfect, sinless sacrifice. It’s important to understand what happened after he sacrificed himself for us.

1 Corinthians 15:3

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

Jesus died for the sins of the entire world, but that wasn’t the end, he rose again after the third day! And because he lives, we can have salvation through him!

People throw the word “salvation” around, but what exactly is it ? There are 2 things we must understand about salvation.

1. Salvation is free.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Salvation can’t be earned, Jesus already took care of it for us. What we have to do is believe

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Now in order to be saved, or have eternal life, it’s not to just believe Jesus exists, but it’s actually to put all your trust in what he did for you. It’s to trust him alone for salvation.

The second thing a person needs to understand about salvation is this:

2. Salvation is forever

John 10:28

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Once a person has salvation, they can never lose it. This would also mean a person could never “give their salvation back” . The moment a person believes on Christ their soul becomes safe and secure by God and they are in His hand forever. No man (including yourself) is strong enough to break free of God’s hand.

Ephesians 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

There is nothing a person can ever do to lose their salvation.  That is great news!

Now what do you have to do ? If you believe all of this, all you need to do is put your trust in Christ and receive the free gift of everlasting life. The Bible tells us HOW we do that.

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

All you have to do is pray and ask God, and tell him you trust him and accept him as your savior. I invite you to pray right now, you can say something like this:

The Prayer

“Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and without you I will go to hell. But I know you love me and died for me so I can go to heaven. Please save me right now, all my faith is in you alone. Amen”

Thank you for your time in reading this. If you just accepted Jesus Christ as your savior you just made the best decision of your entire life! Please share with us if you got saved today, we would love to rejoice with you and pray for you. God bless!
